I need a little bit of understanding on how this works.
I've used mail programs before, and it requires hosting. I am currently using DadaMail and it is hosted by Host Monster through my hosting account.
Who provides the hosting for this Mail Server account? |

This is a mail server. It's your computer (the one the runs the application) that hosts the mail server account.
If you own a domain namne you should update the DNS records to point to your computer. Then all emails for the dfoamin will be forwarded to the mail server. |

How do I do that? I know how to change a DNS, but I don't know how to point it to my computer. What is the standard protocol for that? |

There is no standard way of doing this. This procedure its different fior each domain provider.
Basically you will have to tell the DNS server the IP address of your computer. |
