remote pasv not working for me any more

Post by afreeve » Tue Nov 27, 2012 2:00 pm

I have been using the software for a couple of years, server hardware finally died and had to be replaced. I think I have done everything correctly but must be missing something.

Active ftp works fine within my local network. But I cannot get through pasv mode from outside. Using the gene6 tester I get:

* About to connect() to reeveftp.no-ip.com port 21 (#0)
* Trying 65.94.198.178... connected
* Connected to reeveftp.no-ip.com (65.94.198.178) port 21 (#0)
< 220 Welcome to Quick 'n Easy FTP Server

> USER reevexfer
< 331 Password required for reevexfer

> PASS *****
< 230 User successfully logged in.

> PWD
< 257 "/" is current directory.
* Entry path is '/'

> CLNT Testing from http://www.g6ftpserver.com/ftptest from IP 65.94.198.178
< 502 Command not implemented - Try HELP.
* QUOT command failed with 502
* Closing connection #0

curl: (21) QUOT command failed with 502

and the user is disconnected.

Using the ftptest.net tester I get:

Status: Resolving address of reeveftp.no-ip.com

Status: Connecting to 65.94.198.178

Status: Connected, waiting for welcome message

Reply: 220 Welcome to Quick 'n Easy FTP Server

Command: FEAT

Reply: 211-Extensions supported

and the user is disconnected.

I have tried both putting the server in DMZ and completely disabling the windows firewall on the server, but I still can't connect. I am hoping it is something simple...I don't pretend to be an expert on this stuff. Thx.

This is mosty likely a firewall or router configuration issue.
The clue should be in the server log.

Got it working again. I replaced the router (Dlink EBR-2310) with an old Dlink DIR-615 I had laying around, configured it with the exact same parameters, and suddenly it works. Still not sure why the EBR-2310 worked with the old ftp server, but you can't argue with success!
